80 in October

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 05:37 AM

It felt more like summer on Sunday in Iowa with temperatures nicely warming into the 80s for much of the state. This was after temps in the mid to lower 50s in the morning. The featured chart presents the hourly temperature distributions on days in October that had at least one hourly temperature above 80 for Des Moines. The hourly distributions are represented by box plots, which display the median, inter-quartile range, two sigma range and any outliners of that. Having temperatures in the 50s during the morning of afternoon's with 80s is not uncommon. There are also some interesting afternoon outliers shown when the 80 degree temperatures occurred at midnight.
