Increasing energy

Posted: 19 Feb 2009 06:18 AM

The featured chart is of daily solar radiation observations and climatology based on 20 years of data from the Ames AgClimate site. The shortest day of the year in December is also about our minimum for amount of energy we receive from the sun. As the days get longer and the sun becomes higher in the sky, the sun's provides more energy to the ground to do things like warm us up! We will need all the help we can get today thanks to cold air funneling into the state on northwest winds. Temperatures are only expected to warm into the 20s.
