70s not uncommon
Posted: 31 Oct 2007 07:21 AM
The featured graph plots out frequencies of high and low temperature observations for 30 October from the Iowa COOP data archive. The chart shows that having highs in the 70s are right around the 75th percentile (roughly once every four years). In general, the high temperature curve is flatter than the low temperature curve. This indicates how our variable our afternoons can be as we are dominated by warm or cold air transport into Iowa. Today a cold front is sweeping the really warm air out of the state with afternoon highs much cooler than yesterday.
