Strong winds mixing down
Posted: 24 Jan 2006 07:17 AM
If you were out and about this morning, winds may have not seemed all that bad to warrant the wind advisories currently in effect. The featured plot shows a profile of winds above the wind profiler in Slater, Iowa. Just a few thousand feet above the surface, winds are 50+ miles per hour. This high speed air will mix to the surface as the sun heats up the lower atmosphere and downward motion associated with high pressure both act to transport this gusty air to the surface. The bottom line is that it will be windy today, so hold on tight!
