A diminishing line of showers will weaken as it heads into the eastern counties prior to sunrise. Clouds and south winds of 10 to 15 mph remain ahead of the front with temperatures in the lower to mid 70s while behind the boundary readings have cooled to the lower 60s in northwest Iowa with light northwest winds. The front moving through the state today will slow over eastern Iowa this afternoon and then become stationary just south of the state tonight. This will result in chances for showers and thunderstorms over the east and southeast this afternoon. Tonight with return flow over the front showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage across southern Iowa. Both late this afternoon and tonight a storm or two may be strong enough to produce strong winds or large hail. By Thursday through Saturday the front will lift north of the state with warm and breezy conditions. Unseasonably warm air will move across the region with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s from Iowa northeast into Minnesota and Wisconsin. Highs through the period will 10 to 15 degrees above normal. Sunday will be a few degrees cooler with afternoon highs in the 80s as more clouds move back into the region by that time. Our best chances for thunderstorms will arrive by late Sunday and into the beginning of next week as a large storm system over the western United States finally slides east. $$ REV
