24569 Views AWOS 80+ dewpoint update

Link: http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/AWOS/

Back in July, I made a news item posting with an accounting of AWOS
80+ degree dewpoint values. Unfortunately, the values for July 2004
were incorrect :( So here is the corrected numbers, along with
updates to include the entire summer. (The error only appeared for
July since I was using a different data source for that month and not
the 1 minute archive.) I have double checked these values and they
*should* be correct. I feel really bad about that error...

First up, an accounting of the number of days an Iowa AWOS site
reported a dew point at or above 80 F per month and per year. For
example, if sites SDA and RDK both reported values >= 80 today, that
would count as 2 points.

May Jun Jul Aug Sep Total
1995 0 0 90 142 0 232
1996 0 3 32 30 0 65
1997 0 9 121 13 0 143
1998 5 31 93 70 8 207
1999 0 0 251 12 0 263
2000 0 1 29 30 13 74 (1 in October)
2001 0 0 146 90 0 236
2002 0 6 83 27 1 117
2003 0 7 79 37 0 123
2004 0 12 82 40 2 136

The next table is broken down per site and per year. This table gives
you a better accounting for which sites were potentially the trouble
makers that year. The values in this chart are basically 'days per
years in which the station reported a dewpoint >= 80 F'.

After the first time I posted this table, I was asked about the ASOS
sites and how they compared. Here are the Iowa ASOS sites for the
years the IEM has data for. Again, this is the number of days with an
observation >= 80F.
