Recovering Stolen Hour

Posted: 14 Mar 2016 05:37 AM

If the IEM Daily Feature has done anything over the past 14 years, it has ranted against the evils that are associated with Daylight Saving Time. But alas, another such change occurred over the weekend and we are left with an hour less of potential sunshine in the morning. The featured map displays the number of days it takes to recover this lost hour of morning sunshine by plotting the number of days until the local sunrise time is once again earlier than what it was on 12 March. Please note that this chart does not take into account local deviations in daylight saving time like those that occur in some states. It will take about a month for Iowa to recover, which is shorter than places further south.
