Precip Duration

The featured chart presents the frequency of precipitation events as
measured by the number of consecuative hours at least one hundredth of
an inch is reported by the Des Moines weather sensor. Events lasting
10 or more hours are highlighted with the white crosses. The chart
shows that long duration events are extremely rare during the summer
time when storms tend to be more isolated and not associated with
large storm complexes. The largest concentration of long duration
events is in March and April.
