How do you quantify a great weather day? Yesterday was great weather in my opinion! The featured chart looks at the number of great weather days per year based on the criteria that wind speeds remain below 20 MPH, the skies are mostly clear all day, the high temperature is below normal in the summer or above normal any other time of the year and that the dew point remain below 60 degrees. Based on that criteria, yesterday was a great weather day in Des Moines and one of 11 days so far this year. The bottom chart displays the monthly frequency of having one of these days. Based on this chart, perhaps fall is the best season of the year in Iowa.
