Rainwater has few options

Posted: 17 Oct 2007 07:03 AM

The featured map is of unvalidated soil moisture estimates from the Iowa Daily Erosion Project. The amount of water in the top 10 cm of soil is shown with most locations depicted in blue at saturation. This leaves little choice for rainwater to either runoff or pool up on the surface. With heavy rain on the way from a powerful plains storm system set to impact the region, most of the area show in blue is currently under a flash flood watch.
