Lake Low
Posted: 14 Feb 2007 04:03 AM
An interesting small scale phenomena occured over Lake Superior on Tuesday. The featured loop is of visible satellite images, notice the counter clockwise swirl? This swirl is a result of very cold air settling over the open lake water. The warmer and saturated air over the lake quickly rises forming shallow clouds and over time organizes into a circulation you can see on satellite. A larger time lapse can be found here. The COMET MetEd site has a much more detailed explaination of this phenomena.
