The Storm Prediction Center has a small portion of Western Iowa in a slight risk for severe convection for storms that are expected to fire late this evening. The limiting factors today will be a considerable layer of warm air just above the surface (cap) and limited surface heating due to clouds. As with most springtime storm systems, the dynamics are strong enough to overcome some of these limiting factors. Having said all that, the best chance for severe weather will be to our south.
